What is SPM?
St Pete Masters is a member of United States Masters Swimming (USMS) which is a
organized program of swimming for adults. Activities range from fitness or lap swimming to competitive swimming both in the pool and open water.
How old do I have to be to join SPM?
18 years or older.
What is the average age of SPM members?
In 2005 the average age was 49.
Do I have to be a fast or competitive swimmer to join SPM?
No. Although we have many competetive, world class, age group members there are members of all levels of ability. Anyone who wants to swim, or just help with the events and activities, is welcome.
How much does it cost to join SPM?
It only cost $50 per year.
Are there other costs?
Yes, two other costs, coaching fees and city pool fees..
Coaching Fees are as follows:
$2.00 cash payable to coach on deck
$20.00 punch card - 10 swims
$25.00 per month
$75.00 per quarter
$150.00 semi-annual
$275.00 annual
The city pool fees are frankly a little complicated. There is a $5.00 per year resident fee or a $125 per year (prorated) non-resident fee. Then after that the fees are as follows
Monthly: Semi-Annual: Annual: |
Summer APR-OCT $32.10 $160.50 $337.05 |
WINTER NOV-MAR $35.31 $176.553 $338.05 |
|---|
How much does it all cost?
If you pay by the year, and you are a St Pete resident all the fees (Masters, coaching and City) add up to $603.40. That works out to $50.28 per month. If you swim 100 times a year or about two times per week that is about $6 per workout. If you swim 5 times per week then it works out to about $2.41 per workout.
Can I swim with SPM if I'm not an SPM member?
Yes, if you are a registered USMS member of any team you can swim with St Pete Masters. If you are from out of town the cost will be $7.50 ($5.00 (APR-OCT) $5.50 (NOV-MAR) for the city pool and $2.00 for the coache's fee). If you are a local resident the city will make you purchase a month pass to swim with the team.
